Rosemary Gilliat (Eaton)’s Arctic diary and photographs

Between June and October 1960, photographer Rosemary Gilliat (Eaton) travelled across the Arctic with journalist Barbara Hinds. For those months, Gilliat was immersed in Inuit ways of life. Imagine travelling to Iqaluit (formerly Frobisher Bay), Killiniq (formerly Port Burwell) and Cape Dorset (Kinngait) in Nunavut, or to Kuujjuaq (formerly Fort Chimo) and Kangiqsualujjuaq (formerly George River) in Quebec. Gilliat photographed life in the Arctic for the then Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada and the National Film Board of Canada.
